In markets such as the EU and the United States, Japan, etc., which have high demand for fitness equipment, strict environmental regulations have been established. According to market research data, more international brands have incorporated the environmental capabilities of suppliers into their long-term procurement evaluation systems, and fitness equipment that has obtained CE certification and REACH compliance has an average export unit price at the customs that is 30%-50% higher than that of products without certification. Nevertheless, over 70% of consumers still stated that they would be willing to pay a higher price for products with environmental certification that costs more. The first step of the reform is to start from the material side.
At the beginning of the year, the Baopeng Fitness Commencement Conference focused on reducing waste at the source and improving material utilization as an important part of the conference.
Baopeng Fitness has re-established a precise manufacturing production system through continuous technological innovation and process optimization. Entering the computer numerical control cutting workshop of Baopeng Fitness, metal band saw machines are running at high speed. Before each steel rod is cut, precise calculations are required to maximize the material utilization rate to over 90%. The metal scraps generated during cutting are collected and sorted, then recycled for re-forging into raw materials for small components, achieving resource recycling.
For the grinding and drilling of iron cores, Baopeng Fitness uses CNC machines, reducing the tolerance of hole diameters to the minimum, achieving point-to-point tight fit. After technicians’ statistics, it was found that merely the improvement in drilling accuracy could reduce the amount of metal waste by approximately 6 tons per year.
Step 2: Reduce waste during the process, reforming the sulfurization and electroplating stages
Firstly, all products of the dumbbell series adopt environmentally friendly formulas that comply with REACH standards. Secondly, Baopeng Fitness uses its own unique pouring technology. By controlling the temperature during polyurethane injection molding and the filling speed of the molds,
the product yield rate has been increased to 97%. This means that for every 1,000 dumbbells produced, Baopeng Fitness reduces approximately 20 defective products compared to the industry average. Next, the hand electroplating stage is a step with a high pollution risk for dumbbell producers. Baopeng Fitness adopts an automatic electroplating production line, improving the recycling rate of cleaning water and recovering the generated heavy metals, thereby reducing emissions.
Step 3: All the fitness products submitted for inspection by Baopeng Fitness in 2025 have passed the SGS REACH 253-item comprehensive inspection and the ISO 14001 environmental management system certification. In October 2023, the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) initiated a transitional period, and it will officially impose taxes from 2026. This certification by Baopeng Fitness helps international customers anticipate the CBAM regulations in advance, reducing the compliance costs of the supply chain, and ensuring no risks. Purchasing becomes more relax.
